FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why don’t you have more films?

A: We want to offer films you cannot see anywhere else. With your help we can grow to bring a constantly growing collection of alternative media political videos.

Q: Why should I fill out the questionnaire?

A: No one has tried to do this before, and we have no way to measure what the demand for these kind of videos is. Whether you become a member or not, your information is vital to making this concept a success.

Q: Why are these videos for home use only?

A: Many of the videos we want to bring to you are distributed in the educational market. They are sold and rented to schools for a much higher price than the home market. To get the use of these videos, we must agree to prohibit their use in churches, schools, or other educational institutions.

Q: Why do you charge by the month, instead of per rental?

A: Charging per rental means charging late fees. Charging by the month is simpler and more flexible. That is why most mail-rental services charge by the month.

Q: Why do I need to keep a list of video titles in my queue?

A: It is the responsibility of the member to keep a list of video titles in their queue in order to receive videos. No videos will be shipped to the member if they do not have video titles listed in their queue. Liberation Video is not responsible for delays in delivery of specific video titles that may be checked out or otherwise unavailable. Members are advised to keep an adequate list of alternative video titles in their queue to avoid delays in rental delivery. Monthly membership fees will be charged until the member has requested that their membership be canceled, even when no videos have been ordered or shipped.

Q: Why do you charge more than other video rental services?

A: We are a small experiment in media democracy. Operating on a shoestring, we try to offer video that is not available elsewhere, while pasing along some income to independent video producers. We hope to lower our prices in the future.

Q: Why should I invite people to see these these videos at my house?

A: The videos we offer are not available through the mainstream media. By inviting others to see them, you can be a part of the independent media movment. Watching TV alone can be isolating, while watching these films with others is a much more empowering experience.

Q: Why do you ask if my DVD player can play DVD-R or DVD+R?

A: Some of the videos we offer are only available on these formats. It is your responsibility to be sure you can play these discs. Consult your DVD player manual or the manufacturer's web site to find out if you can play these formats.

Q: Some of the films you carry are offered by other rental services. Why do you carry them?

A: Our goal is to expand the number of videos not available for rent elsewhere. However, we also carry political material that is available on other rental services. We encourage you to see these films from whatever source you wish, but we hope you will join us in our effort to bring more alternative media to the public.

Q: Most of your films are documentary. Why do you also carry fiction films?

A: We select some fiction films because of their important political content. Many times art can be the most effective way to reveal the truth about many issues.

Q: Do I have to provide my own box and stamps to return the movies?  If not, what if I lose the box that I'm supposed to use?

We will provide a self-addressed/stamped box to use for returning the movies.  If you lose the box you can return them in an appropriately sized box with postage (4 or 5 1st class stamps) to:
